Thank you being bold enough to raise and explore this topic. As you say it can almost be taboo around injury and board sports.
I felt emotional reading your article, I had a brush with a significant injury just over a year ago and am working my way forward. I deliberately say forward, as it’s not about working back to where I was, it’s about a (my) new reality.
I managed to separate my foot from my leg, did a 180, landed wrong, suddenly the world changed.
Like you I focussed on the positive, and asked the black holes to wait until I mentally caught up.
As you say, it’s a process, I’m still working through it, and now that the immediate physical danger is past, I have space to focus on my mental recovery. I woke up on Saturday morning after a restless night and had a bit of an epiphany, in understanding I’m now at the stage where I’m proper furious at myself for getting injured. Not in a destructive on negative way, surprisingly it’s been rather freeing to understand I’m annoyed, and that’s ok, this too shall pass, and to allow myself time to sit with that.
I LOVE what you’re doing with Board Women, your articles and events are helping more than you know, thank you ❤️
